Greek exporter Zeus Kiwi is seeing growing demand for its kiwifruit in new markets this campaign, including in Brazil, but the company says it will have to be patient for the arrival of its new plantings before it can make a sizeable dent in such a giant market.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if the profit is good, if the volume isn\u2019t there, what can you do?\u201d asks Christina Manossis, marketing and sales director\u00a0at Zeus Kiwi. \u201cYou can\u2019t serve a market if you don\u2019t have the fruit to do so. Climate change is playing a part in this too.\u00a0At Zeus Kiwi, we\u2019ve been taking environmental actions\u2014such as cutting CO2 emissions, adapting farming practices to climate challenges, and actively safeguarding our farms\u2014a core part of our strategy. We firmly believe this is the most vital investment we have undertaken over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are almost halfway through the season, and we wish we had more fruit. We always have more demand than we can supply, and that\u2019s a good problem to have, but it does present challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking to expand both in green and yellow kiwifruit,\u201d explains sales manager Antonis Ioannidis. \u201cWe have new fields and volumes of Kikok\u00e0 that will be commercially available within the next two to three years, and of course there are new plantations of green kiwifruit as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

With disappointment Ioannidis points out that the price of kiwifruit this year has not reflected the shortage of supply on the market. \u201cThe pricing is not as high as it should be, especially considering that the quantity is lower than usual,\u201d he comments. \u201cSomething was not quite right at the start of the season, but so far we are thankfully doing quite well at Zeus Kiwi.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the key hurdles for the company is the increasing cost of raw materials, as well as the disadvantage faced by European growers due to the EU\u2019s \u201csevere\u201d controls and regulations. \u201cThe EU has some of the strictest controls and regulations in the world, which is good for food safety but also creates challenges for growers,\u201d says Manossis. \u201cAt the same time, labour costs continue to rise, adding further pressure on margins.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the company remains optimistic about the future, particularly in relation to its brand. \u201cWhen we enter a new market, we focus on promoting the Zeus Kiwi brand,\u201d Ioannidis explains. \u201cWe want customers to understand what sets our product apart, and we aim to convey the added value of our fruit.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
