Greece experienced a 3.4% rise in fruit and vegetable imports in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year, reports George Polychronakis, Executive Advisor to the Association of Greek Fruit and Vegetable Exporters (Incofruit-Hellas). Total imports from January to June reached 434,790 metric tons, an increase from 420,530 tons during the same timeframe in 2024. June alone witnessed a 43.2% year-over-year increase.<\/main>Potatoes were among the leading imports, totaling 189,800 tons, a decline of 5.4% from last year, with Egypt contributing 75.7% of the supply. Banana imports climbed by 17.7% to 156,477 tons, primarily from Ecuador, covering 92.7% of the volume. Onion imports saw a 14% increase, totaling 9,544 tons, with Austria, the Netherlands, India, and Egypt as leading suppliers.<\/p>\n

Tomato imports grew by 21% to 2,737 tons, mainly from Germany, Turkey, and the Netherlands, while pepper imports dropped by 21% to 2,020 tons, predominantly from Israel. Apple imports decreased by 42% to 7,047 tons, primarily sourced from Italy.<\/p>\n

Imports of avocados rose by 7.2% to 4,022 tons, largely from the Netherlands. Mandarin imports increased by 13.9% to 1,191 tons, primarily from Israel. Orange imports decreased by 25.6% to 2,119 tons, mostly from Egypt. Lemon and lime imports grew by 12.8% to 10,549 tons, with the Netherlands as the main supplier. Pear imports declined by 17.4% to 3,482 tons, sourced mainly from Argentina.<\/p>\n

Mushroom imports edged up by 2.4% to 7,244 tons, mostly from Poland.<\/p>\n
